National Black Arts Alliance (NBAA) received a Heritage Lottery Fund grant supporting Afro Solo UK .

In celebration Afro Solo UK on April 5th 2014 hosted a memorial ceremony at Manchester Cathedral with music, poetry and a living histories performance by MMU students and Back2Roots performers.

Afro Solo UK is because most Africans came on their own. It is an adaption of the Afro Solo festival in San Francisco, California, created by Thomas Robert Simpson (pictured).

Afro Solo UK is the result of 2 years research of the African diaspora of Greater Manchester. Each life story is an act of remembrance, a celebration and in some cases a reconciliation. They provide a legacy and are a declaration that this community will never again be overlooked.
